Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Lindsey Scores 19 as Men's Basketball Falls at Rhode Island

Score: UAlbany 61, URI 80

Location: Thomas M. Ryan Center | Kingston, R.I.

Records: UAlbany (1-3, 0-0 America East), Rhode Island (3-1, 0-0 A10)

Short Story: The University at Albany men's basketball team fell on the road at Rhode Island, 80-61. UAlbany built a nine-point first-half lead and trailed 38-30 at halftime. The Great Danes pulled within five midway through the second before the Rams answered to create separation late.

Coach Dwayne Killings: "Tough loss for us. I thought we played really well for about 16 minutes. Same story right now: we get going and do some good things, then it sets in and we are not adjusting the right way. We have to keep growing. It is hard to get a road win out here. We did a better job on the glass, but we are fouling too much and turning the ball over too much, and it hurts."

Key Stats:
  • Amir Lindsey scored 19 points on 5-for-14 (35.7%) and 2-for-7 from three (28.6%) with 7-for-8 at the line (87.5%) and four assists.
  • Zacharie Matulu had 14 points on 5-for-10 (50.0%) and 4-for-8 from three (50.0%) with seven rebounds.
  • Ma'Kye Taylor added 10 points on 4-for-7 (57.1%) with eight rebounds.
  • Ife West-Ingram finished with eight points on 4-for-5 (80.0%).
  • Team shooting finished 23-for-61 FG (37.7%), 6-for-28 3PT (21.4%), and 9-for-14 FT (64.3%). UAlbany had 22 second chance points, a largest run of 7-0, and a largest lead of nine at 13:17 of the first.

How it Happened:
  • UAlbany started fast as Isaac Abidde scored in transition, Amir Lindsey hit a wing three, and Matulu finished a dunk for a 7-4 edge.
  • Matulu added a three, and Lindsey scored at the rim to make it 14-5, the Great Danes' largest lead.
  • Rhode Island answered at the stripe and at the rim to tie it 22-22 with six minutes to play in the half.
  • UAlbany stemmed the momentum with makes from the perimeter, including another Matulu three, before the Rams closed the period to take a 38-30 lead at the break.
  • The Great Danes punched back out of halftime. Lindsey hit a jumper, a three at 17:25, two free throws at 13:43, and another jumper at 13:10 to cut it to 45-40.
  • Ma'Kye Taylor scored at the rim to keep it within 47-42 as UAlbany leaned on the glass and second chance points.
  • Rhode Island responded with makes from deep and free throws to push the margin to the mid teens.
  • UAlbany kept fighting on the boards and added late buckets from Taylor and Ife West Ingram, but the Rams closed it out at the line and in transition for the 80-61 final.
