ALBANY, N.Y. - The University at Albany women's soccer program and head coach
Sade Ayinde has announced the hiring of assistant coach Brian Wilkin.
"We are excited to have Brian join our staff this season," said Ayinde. "He will be a positive resource for our goalkeepers through his experiences as a player and his growing experiences in coaching. Brian is a hard worker with a desire to learn and a passion for goalkeeping. As we continue to evolve as a program, Brian will challenge our goalkeepers in a new way to help them grow individually and add to our team success this fall."
Wilkin joins the UAlbany staff after spending the 2023 season with the University of Rochester men's soccer team. The Yellowjackets earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament after being ranked as high as seventh in the top 25 throughout the season. While at the U of R, several of Wilkin's players received all-conference and all-region honors. Wilkin has also spent time working with the SUNY Oswego men's and women's soccer programs and the RIT men's soccer goalkeepers.
"I'm incredibly excited to join the University at Albany women's soccer team as an assistant coach and goalkeeper coach," said Wilkin. "With my knowledge, experience, and passion for the game, I'm committed to driving the team to find results and enhancing the soccer program. I look forward to building strong connections and a positive culture with both the coaching staff and players. This role is a fantastic opportunity for me to continue learning and growing as a coach while working towards our shared goals."
A standout goalkeeper at Nazareth College, Wilkin was the Empire-8 Goalkeeper of the Year three times. Named all-region and First Team All-Empire-8 in three consecutive years, he holds multiple records for the Golden Flyers and helped lead his team to an Empire-8 Championship.
Wilkin continued his playing career in the Major Arena Soccer League (MASL) for four years. Competing with the Rochester Lancers (2019-20) and the Utica City FC (2020-24), he contributed to multiple playoff appearances and was a well-decorated athlete with several weekly awards. Most recently, Wilkin competed in The Soccer Tournament (TST0 in Carry, N.C. where he faced off against top-level talent, including MLS players and international star, Sebastian Giovinco.
A native of Hilton, N.Y., Wilkin graduated from Nazareth with a degree in Business Management in 2019.
