Women’s Golf to Host Invitational, Announces Fall Schedule

ALBANY, N.Y. - The University at Albany women's golf team is set for an exciting fall as the Great Danes announced the first half of their 2024-25 schedule, Thursday.

This fall's slate includes an exciting first for the Great Danes and head coach Colleen Cashman

"This upcoming season is going to be an amazing one for sure," said Cashman. "With more than half our roster brand new to the program, it will be fun to incorporate a few new events. Something I'm super excited about - we are hosting our first-ever 12-team tournament.

"I've been thinking of hosting an event for a long time now. This past spring a lot of us coaches were chatting that we had a big gap in schedules in October and we didn't have anything to play in. So, I put pencil to paper and got on the phone, and within days, we had a full field including teams like Navy, Boston University, Seton Hall, and St. John's and we got the ball rolling. It is going to be a special week for sure!"

For the first time in her career, Cashman and UAlbany will host a multi-team event. Held at Normanside Country Club in Delmar, N.Y., the Great Danes will host the first UAlbany Great Danes Invitational on October 4-6. Teams will participate in a practice round on Friday, October 4 before competing in two rounds of 18 holes each throughout Saturday and Sunday (October 5-6).

The Great Danes' fall schedule is rounded out with four additional tournaments.

"We are beginning the season earlier than usual with our first event being one I have never been to before," said Cashman. "I figured, why not throw the team into the fire right out of the gate and see what we have in the arsenal."

UAlbany will start with a busy September competing in three tournaments throughout the Northeast. Shortly after Labor Day, the Great Danes will head to Pennsylvania for the three-day Bucknell Invitational. Two weeks later, UAlbany will compete in two staples in one week - the Red Bandanna Invitational, hosted by Boston College, (Sept. 23-24) and the Princeton Invitational (Sept. 28-29).

After hosting its own tournament, UAlbany will close out the fall season at Saucon Valley Country Club with the Lehigh Invitational (Oct. 19-20). The Great Danes look to improve upon their runner-up finish from Lehigh's fall 2023 event.

"I'm proud to say this upcoming season will be the most exciting one yet - new tournaments, new home event, new roster," finished Cashman. "There are so many things to look forward to!"
