ALBANY, N.Y. – For the second-straight season, University at Albany women's track & field junior
Leann Nicholas has been named SUNY Winter Scholar-Athlete of the Year for women's indoor track & field.

The SUNY Scholar Athlete Awards recognize outstanding academic and athletic success in 29 different sports and are presented three times a year. Nominating information includes cumulative grade point average, current and career statistics, and athletic and academic honors.

Nicholas, a jumper from Farmingdale, N.Y., earned a 3.92 GPA studying Biochemistry & Molecular Biology, with a minor in Spanish with a specialization in linguistics and teaching. During the 2023-24 indoor season, Nicholas won her fourth-straight America East triple jump individual title, set the UAlbany indoor school record in the triple jump, and earned three individual victories over the course of the season in the triple jump. She also earned her third-ever America East All-Academic selection following the indoor season.

The Scholar Athletes of the Year in each sport will be nominated for an overall Scholar Athlete of the Year for men's sports and women's sports in each category that will be announced in mid-July.

More than 14,000 student-athletes compete at SUNY institutions representing 53 different colleges and universities at the NCAA Division I, NCAA Division III/USCAA and NJCAA levels and are eligible for the awards.
