How it Happened
- Accurate shooting by Tyler Bertram helped the Great Danes score 10 consecutive points and jump out to an early 11-2 lead only 3:29 minutes into the contest.
- Both teams came out firing after the first media timeout, trading baskets and defensive highlights as UAlbany led 22-10 with 13:30 remaining in the first half.
- The Retrievers began to battle back mid-way through the first half, scoring seven unanswered points to cut the Great Danes' lead to 23-17. However, UAlbany responded with a 7-2 scoring run to regain control.
- As the UMBC offense began to find its rhythm in the mid-range, they started to chip away at the Great Dane lead, closing within five points with five minutes left in the first half.
- The Retrievers finished off the first half with a 10-2 scoring run to take a 45-44 lead at the break. Bertram led UAlbany in scoring with 20 points and six three-pointers on 7-9 shooting (77.8%).
