ALBANY, N.Y. – For the second-straight year, Roberto Vives, Director of Track & Field and Cross Country at the University at Albany has been selected by Federación de Atletismo de Puerto Rico to serve as team leader for the team traveling to the 2023 World Outdoor Championships.
 
"I am again humbled, honored, and thankful to serve Puerto Rico, the birthplace of my parents, Paula Colon and Juan Vives, as Team Leader at another prestigious World Athletics Championships," said Vives.  "This is the largest sporting event ever hosted by Hungary and I am excited for this tremendous opportunity to work with an incredible group of athletes, administrators, coaches, and staff representing 'La Isla del Encanto' - Puerto Rico."
 
Vives previously worked with the Puerto Rico National Team at the 2022 World Outdoor Championships, the 2019 Pan American Games, and the 2018 World Indoor Championships.  In 2015, Vives worked for Team USA at the North America, Central America, and Caribbean Senior Area Championships.
 
Puerto Rico will field 10 athletes at this year's World Championships.  Headlining the qualifiers is Jasmine Camacho-Quinn, who won the gold medal in the women's 100m hurdles at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.  Camacho-Quinn's time of 12.26 in the semifinal round in Tokyo stands as the current Olympic Record.  Camacho-Quinn followed up her gold medal with a bronze at the 2022 World Championships in Eugene, Ore.
 
Also competing for Puerto Rico is Ayden Owens-Delerme, who placed fourth in the men's decathlon at the 2022 World Championships.  Owens-Delerme previously won the NCAA decathlon title in 2022 while competing for Arkansas, matching Ashton Eaton's meet record of 8,457 points.
 
The Puerto Rico team is rounded out by Gabby Scott, Beverly Ramos, Rachelle de Orbeta, John Rivera, Ryan Sánchez, Rob Napolitano, Luis Rivera Castro, and Jerome Vega.
 
The 2023 World Outdoor Championships will be held from August 19-27 at the National Athletics Centre in Budapest, Hungary.  The meet will be broadcast on the NBC family of networks and streamed on Peacock.
