Women's Soccer Announces 2023 Schedule

ALBANY, N.Y. – The University at Albany women's soccer program and head coach Sade Ayinde have announced their competition schedule for the 2023 season.  The schedule features 17 total games, and three opponents that won their conferences and made appearances in the 2022 NCAA Tournament.

"We had a productive off season and are now excited to get competing again," said Ayinde.  "We have some competitive non-conference matchups, including some rematches from last season that will continue to challenge and prepare us for conference play.  Right now, our staff is excited to get back on the field with the team and start preparing our home opener on August 17."

The 2023 season begins with two games at home, first against defending CAA champion Hofstra on August 17 and next against La Salle on August 20.  Hofstra fell to five-seed Georgetown in the First Round of the 2022 NCAA Tournament.

The Great Danes' first road game of 2023 takes place August 25 at defending Ivy League champion Brown.  The Bears upset five-seed Rutgers in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament, and ultimately fell in the Second Round to UC Irvine, 4-2 in penalty kicks.

The Brown game kicks off a three-game road swing for UAlbany, continuing with a visit to
Boston University on August 27 and to Rider on August 31.  The Great Danes open September with two games at home against Atlantic-10 opponents, on September 7 against UMass and September 10 against Fordham.

On September 13, the Great Danes pay a visit to Army West Point, before opening America East play on the road on September 17 at NJIT.  UAlbany returns home on September 24 to host Maine.

September 28 sees UAlbany return to Binghamton for a rematch of the 2022 America East semifinal round.  A high-scoring affair between the Great Danes and Bearcats saw regulation end in a 2-2 draw, and overtime conclude with the game knotted at three.  Binghamton outlasted UAlbany 3-2 in penalty kicks to advance to the America East title game.

The showdown against the Bearcats leads directly into a home matchup against 2022 America East champion New Hampshire.  UAlbany defeated New Hampshire in the teams' lone meeting in 2022, 2-1 in Durham.  The Wildcats' season ended in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament, with a 2-0 loss to six-seed Harvard.

The Great Danes visit Bryant on October 8 before returning home to host UMBC on October 12.  The final non-conference opponent of the regular season, Cornell, hosts the Great Danes on October 17, ahead of a rematch of the 2022 America East quarterfinal on the road at UMass Lowell.  The regular season comes to an end on October 26 at home against Vermont.

The America East Tournament is scheduled to begin on October 29.

UAlbany went 7-8-5 in 2022 and made its second-straight appearance in the America East semifinal.
