Kelly Named FedEx Ground FCS National Defensive Player of the Week

ALBANY, N.Y. – University at Albany linebacker Dylan Kelly has been named the FedEx Ground FCS National Offensive Player of the Week, Stats Perform announced on Monday. It is the first national award of Kelly's career.

Kelly had a career game in UAlbany's 24-17 win at Towson on Saturday. The senior linebacker was all over the field, recording a career-high 23 tackles, nine of which were solo stops. His total tackles number falls just one short of the UAlbany single-game record set in 1974 by Don Mion and is the most in a single game by any FCS player this season. He added a forced fumble early in the second half deep in UAlbany territory, preventing a potential score from the Tigers. He added a pass breakup, a quarterback hurry, and half a TFL in the win.

On the year, Kelly sits with 79 total tackles – leading the entire CAA and falling within the top five in national rankings. He's added two fumble recoveries, an interception, 4.0 TFLs, and two sacks. He was named the Coastal Athletic Association's (CAA) Defensive Player of the Week earlier in the day.

UAlbany sits with a 4-2 overall record, with a perfect 4-0 mark against FCS level opponents and a 2-0 mark in the CAA. The Great Danes return to the road again this weekend to face a tough opponent in New Hampshire.
