Thompson Named Attackman, Humanitarian of the Year at 2022 PLL Awards

ALBANY, N.Y. – For the second-consecutive season, University at Albany alumnus Lyle Thompson was named the recipient of the Welles Crowther Humanitarian Award at the year-end Premier Lacrosse League awards ceremony Friday night.

Thompson has used his platform to raise awareness about the atrocities committed against Indigenous youth in Canada's residential schools.  Last year, Thompson was featured in an issue of Sports Illustrated, shining more light on the tragedies.

Additionally, Thompson was named Eamon McEneaney Attackman of the Year.  Thompson, who plays for the Cannons LC, led the league with 44 total points and 26 goals, while adding 18 assists.  It is Thompson's first Attackman of the Year award, after being a finalist for the honor in 2021.

Three other former Great Danes, Blaze Riorden and Troy Reh of the defending champion Chaos LC, and Connor Fields of the Archers LC, will play head-to-head on Sunday when the teams meet in the PLL semifinal round.
