Key Stats
  • Pantelis Panteli scored his second goal of the season, and second by penalty kick
  • Marist scored twice in the first 13 minutes
  • Marist outshot UAlbany 13-9 overall
  • Eight yellow cards were given during the match, including five to Marist
Head Coach Trevor Gorman: "We shot ourselves in the foot twice in the first 15 minutes tonight.  When you do that, it's always difficult to win games.  It was important we delivered a second-half performance though, and we did that, giving ourselves a chance to get something out of the match.  This is a talented team that has a lot of potential.  We need to learn to not beat ourselves and we can do a lot of good things."

How it Happened
  • Marist struck almost immediately following the opening kickoff, breaking through the Great Danes' defense for a score in just the second minute.
  • The Red Foxes scored again in the 13th minute on a shot from deep that took advantage of UAlbany goalkeeper Shafique Wilson charging out of the box to cut off the Marist attack.
  • In the 21st minute, UAlbany had a goal rescinded due to an offsides call, keeping the Great Danes' deficit at two rather than cutting it in half.  The Great Danes were called offsides three times in the first half and five times overall.
  • Marist took the 2-0 lead into halftime, having outshot UAlbany 8-4 in the first half.  Three of UAlbany's four shots were on target.
  • The Great Danes drew a foul in the Marist defensive box and earned a penalty kick.  Pantelis Panteli, who had scored UAlbany's lone goal of the season, a penalty kick in the opener against Boston University, successfully converted his second PK of the year to cut Marist's lead to 2-1 with just over 32 minutes to play.
  • UAlbany evened out the shot totals in the second half, equaling Marist's five attempts after halftime.  The Great Danes had another potential goal called back after an offsides call that would have tied the game at two.
  • Marist held on to win 2-1.  The teams combined to commit 33 fouls and draw eight yellow cards over the 90 minutes of play.
Next: UAlbany hosts Penn on September 9.
