Head Coach Sade Ayinde: "It feels great to get our first team win. Rider is a good team that had only conceded two goals so far this season, so to score three, especially after being down, showed some grit from our team. Shoutout to Emily for scoring not only her first collegiate goal but also her second and third tonight. We are excited to get another chance to compete again on Sunday."
How it Happened
- The Great Danes arrived at their second home game of the season having lost each of their previous four without scoring a single goal. Rider withstood an aggressive start from UAlbany and broke through in the 24th minute on a turnover in UAlbany's defensive half. Makenzie Rodrigues forced the turnover and found Lindsey Maslow to put Rider up 1-0.
- UAlbany didn't let up their initial pressure, outshooting Rider 15-4 over the duration of the first 45 minutes. The Great Danes finally found the back of the net for the first time this season when senior Sahara Zingano found freshman Emily Jozak for the team's first goal of 2022, knotting the game at one in the 40th minute.
- Jozak scored again in the 42nd minute to put UAlbany ahead 2-1 for their first lead of the year. The Great Danes took the 2-1 lead into the break. Rider goalkeeper Ellie Sciancalepore recorded six saves in the first half, while Rider's one shot on target came on the goal they scored.
- In the 50th minute, Zingano found Jozak again to complete the hat trick for the freshman and give UAlbany a two-goal cushion. Despite the advantage, the Great Danes kept up the pressure, continuing their shots onslaught, outshooting the Broncs 14-3 after halftime.
- Six Great Danes took at least two shots in the game, led by Jozak's eight and Zingano's six. Marisa Tava added five.
- Head coach Sade Ayinde recorded her first career victory at UAlbany, as did starting goalkeeper Megan Hart.
- UAlbany's 29 shots in the game rank tied for sixth in Division I program history, matching the total from the game in 2019 against Maine and 2008 against UMBC.
- Jozak recorded the second hat trick in UAlbany Division I history, tying Mariah Williams for the Great Danes' single-game record in goals and points from the game against Maine in 2017.
Next: UAlbany visits La Salle on Sunday, September 4.
