RICHMOND, Va. – The Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) today announced that University at Albany football student-athletes
Jackson Ambush and
Tyler Pastula have been named to the 2022 Preseason All-Conference Team. Defensive lineman
Anthony Lang also earned Preseason Honorable Mention honors.
In addition, the Great Danes were picked to finish 12
th in the 2022 standings. Voting for preseason all-conference teams and predicted order of finish is conducted by member institution head coaches and media relations directors.
Last year, Ambush led the team in tackles on a weekly basis. He finished the season just shy of triple digits, topping out at 97 - 53 solo and 44 assisted. That mark put him fifth in the entire CAA at 8.82 tackles per game. The linebacker from Maryland recorded double-figure tackle totals in six of his 11 games played. He finished the season with 5.0 tackles for loss, four quarterback hits, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery.
Pastula joins the Great Danes in 2022 after transferring from the University of Delaware. In 2021, his sophomore season, he was named to the All-CAA First Team and was twice named CAA Special Teams Player of the Week. He punted 62 times for 2,637 yards, leading the CAA with an average of 42.5 yards per punt. A Pennsylvania native, the precision punter pinned opponents inside their own 20-yard line 24 times.
Lang played in all 11 games last season for the Great Danes, recording 21 solo tackles and 21 assisted tackles. He recorded nine tackles for loss for 27 yards, and registered 1.5 sacks. He finished with four quarterback hits and two pass break ups.
UAlbany went 2-9 last year. The Great Danes kick off the 2022 season against FBS powerhouse Baylor on Sept. 3 in Waco, Texas. The team returns home the following week on Sept. 10 for the 2022 home opener against CAA rival New Hampshire.
