GREENWOOD, Ind. – Two members of the University at Albany women's track & field and cross country program, Shannon Bailey and Sydney Coddington, have earned Academic All-District honors from the College Sports Information Directors of America, the organization announced Thursday.
 
UAlbany is a member of District 1 as an institution located in New York.  Other District 1 states are Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont.  A total of 13 student-athletes were named to the District 1 team.
 
Bailey, a junior high jumper from Meadowbrook Estate, Jamaica, earned a 3.67 GPA studying Human Biology with a minor in Psychology.  Bailey won the high jump at the 2022 America East Outdoor Championships, and holds the best performance in her signature event in the conference this season.  She also ranks fifth in the USTFCCCA Northeast region.
 
Coddington, a graduate distance runner from Bronxville, N.Y., earned her undergraduate degree with a 4.00 GPA in Political Science and a minor in Philosophy, and holds a 4.00 graduate GPA studying Philosophy.  Coddington is a two-time America East All-Academic selection and a two-time America East Elite-18 award-winner.  She was a 2020-21 America East Presidential Scholar Athlete upon earning her undergraduate degree, and was the 2021 Rockefeller College Valedictorian.  On the track, Coddington placed seventh in the 1,500m at the 2022 America East Outdoor Championships.
 
The 2021-22 Academic All-District® Men's and Women's Track & Field/Cross Country Teams, selected by CoSIDA, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances in athletic competition and in the classroom. The CoSIDA Academic All-America® program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
 
First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in June.
