Short Story: The University at Albany football team suffered a 27-3 loss on the road Saturday afternoon at the hands of #19 Elon. The Phoenix defense proved to be a tough matchup, limiting the Great Danes to just three points and forcing three turnovers.

Key Stat Lines How it Happened:
  • Elon got the first score of the game with just over four minutes remining in the first quarter. Jalen Hampton hit a gap to the far side to break away for 16 yards and the TD. The run capped a drive that spanned 72 yards on 11 plays, eating 5:14 of clock.
  • Late in the first quarter, UAlbany's Elijah Hills forced a fumble deep in Elon territory. UAlbany was able to capitalize with a 26-yard FG, making it 7-3 as the second quarter began.
  • The Phoenix scored on their next offensive possession via a 36-yard TD run from Malik Griffin, increasing the lead to 14-3. Elon covered 65 yards on just three plays.
  • The Elon defense forced an interception with 11:45 remaining in the first half. Jamir Malone came up with the pick to give the Phoenix possession at the UAlbany 26-yard line. Hampton would get his second TD of the afternoon just a few plays later with a five-yard TD run to make the score 21-3.
  • The Elon defense forced another turnover, this time a fumble, with seven minutes remaining in the first half. The Phoenix would take over at the UAlbany 39-yard line and eventually kick a 52-yard FG off the foot of Skylar Davis to push the lead to 24-3.
  • Elon's first offensive possession led to a field goal attempt from 34 yards out, but the kick was no good (wide left).
  • With just over three minutes left in the third quarter, Elon's defense forced another fumble. The loose ball was picked up and brought back 45 yards to the UAlbany one yard line. There, UAlbany's Brevin Easton saved a TD by knocking the ball loose, with Todd Sibley making the recovery in the end zone. The wild play was deemed a touchback, with UAlbany retaining possession.
  • The last score of the game came on a 23-yard FG off the leg of Elon's Davis with 6:06 remaining, making the final score 27-3.
