How it Happened:
- The UAlbany offense got off to a blistering start, taking just three plays to score the first TD of the game. Reese Poffenbarger found Jackson Parker on a 66-yard pass for the score.
- UAlbany was forced to punt on its second possession of the game. Punter Tyler Pastula was able to pin the rams on their own one-yard line following a beauty of a punt.
- The Great Danes turned the ball over with two minutes remining in the first quarter after a fumble in Rhody territory. The Rams took over at the 23-yard line.
- Rhode Island got its first TD of the afternoon early in the second quarter. UAlbany's Poffenbarger was unable to handle the initial bad snap, recovered, but lost it again after facing heavy pressure from the Rams. Rhode Island was able to fall on it for six points.
- URI made it 14-0 with 10:32 remaining in the first half. Kahtero Summers took in a 12-yard pass for the score after being setup by a 44-yard rush from Marques DeShields. The drive lasted just three plays and spanned 60 yards over 1:04.
- UAlbany's John Opalko missed a 45-yard FG with 6:42 remaining in the first half. The kick went wide right and was into the wind.
- Opalko attempted another kick, this time from 24 yards out, right before the half. The Rams were able to block the kick and return it 96 yards to the house to make the score 21-7. Oneil Robinson recovered the ball and ran it in for Rhode Island. The Rams would take that 21-7 lead into the locker room at halftime.
- Following UAlbany's first offensive possession of the second half, punter Tyler Pastula was unable to take in the long snap but did recover the ball, resulting in a turnover on downs for UAlbany. The play game URI the ball on the UAlbany 15-yard line.
- The UAlbany defense responded by forcing a fumble on the ensuing Rhody possession. URI's Kasim Hill coughed up the ball which was recovered by UAlbany's Joseph Greaney on the 28-yard line.
- The Great Danes capitalized on the turnover, marching 72 yards to make the game 14-21. Kavon Chambers scored his first collegiate TD with a three-yard run, featuring multiple jump cuts.
- Special teams woes continued to plague UAlbany when the Rams blocked a punt near the end of the third quarter. The blocked punt set up URI deep in UAlbany territory. The Rams took full advantage, scoring three plays later to push the lead back to 14 at 28-14. Darius Savedge caught the seven-yard strike for the score.
- On the first play of the next UAlbany possession, Poffenbarger threw a deep ball intended for Parker that was picked off by URI's Jordan Jones at the Rhody seven-yard line.
- Ian Renninger picked up his first TD of the year with 6:50 remaining in the game. The TE brought in a three-yard pass from Poffenbarger to make it a one score game late.
- Rhode Island responded with a TD on its next possession. Marques DeShields ran it in from three yards out to push it back to a two score game. The score was setup following a 61-yard run from DeShields just a few plays earlier.
