SHORT STORY: The Great Danes came together to grab three set wins for a sweep at Stonehill, Thursday night.
 
COACH JOSH PICKARD: "It was a great team effort tonight. We were able to keep a lot of pressure from the service line and adjust our defense accordingly. It's always great to start a road trip with a win."
 
KEY STATS
  • Sophomore Anissia Wong led the offense with seven kills and added the lone solo block of the night.
  • On defense, senior Charlotte Macken totaled a team-high 17 digs.
  • Starting setter Malea Stanton assists 22 kills.
  • As a team, the Great Danes compiled 10 service aces. Wong and freshman Anna Myhal led with three each while Macken and junior Hannah Rowe followed with two each.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After taking the first point of the match, the Great Danes tallied seven unanswered points for an 8-1 advantage.
  • UAlbany closed the set, 25-12, after adding two three-point scoring runs.
  • The second set was close for the majority of play as both teams earned multiple scoring runs.
  • With two 3-0 scoring runs, the Great Danes gained an 11-7 lead.
  • Stonehill answered and tied the score at 11.
  • Six unanswered points gave UAlbany a lead the Skyhawks could not overcome. After notching two more three-point scoring runs, the Great Danes won the second set, 25-18.
  • What proved to be the final set started with five points from UAlbany. 
  • After a 6-1 scoring run, the Great Danes held an 11-3 advantage.
  • The Skyhawks earned seven points in the middle of the set but a final scoring run for four unanswered points, giving UAlbany a 23-11 lead, secured the set and match. The Great Danes won the set, 25-12, and the match, 3-0.
 
NEXT: The Great Danes will stay on the road to go against Bryant, tomorrow, Friday, October 7.
