Volleyball Falls at Bryant

SHORT STORY: The Great Danes worked for three close sets but Bryant tallied the win, Friday night.
 
COACH JOSH PICKARD: "Kudos to Bryant for coming out at the beginning and playing a complete match. We had a few opportunities to stretch the match and we weren't able to capitalize. Our conference is a battle this year and we have to come prepared every night."
 
KEY STATS
  • Two Great Danes notched double-digit kills - junior Hannah Rowe (16) and sophomore Alexa Harris (10).
  • Senior Charlotte Macken led with nine digs while junior Kaleigh Fitzgerald followed with eight.
  • Junior Sadie Brown owned a team-high four blocks, including two of UAlbany's three solo blocks of the night. Sophomore Anissia Wong added the third.
  • Senior Malea Stanton assisted 30 kills in her position as setter.
  • With just one error, Brown led the team with a .432 hitting percentage.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • UAlbany grabbed the first two points of the match, but Bryant quickly tallied three points to take the early lead.
  • The Bulldogs continued with the advantage until the Great Danes put together a 7-2 scoring run to take an 11-8 advantage.
  • Despite a final scoring run from UAlbany, Bryant pulled together a 25-23 set win.
  • In the second set, the Bulldogs quickly grabbed the first multi-point lead, 5-3.
  • The Great Danes tied the score at six but Bryant added two scoring runs for a 15-11 advantage.
  • After earning points back and forth, UAlbany slowly worked to tie the score at 21.
  • Bryant finished off the second set with a 4-1 scoring run.
  • In what proved to be the final set, the Great Danes tallied the first multi-point lead, 3-1, before the Bulldogs worked toward a 6-3 advantage.
  • After tying the score at six, UAlbany and Bryant saw ties at each point until three unanswered points from the Great Danes led to a 12-10 advantage.
  • UAlbany continued with the lead through much of the mid-set play but a 6-2 scoring run from the Bulldogs proved to be too much and the Great Danes fell, 25-21.
 
NEXT: The Great Danes will continue their road slate at UMBC. The Sunday afternoon match is the first time the two teams will meet since the 2021 America East Championship.
