Myhal Leads in Five-Set Volleyball Victory

SHORT STORY: In a close match, the Great Danes came out on top in five sets over Binghamton, Friday evening. 
 
COACH JOSH PICKARD: "It was a great team effort tonight. We had double-digit kills from three people - Anna [Myhal] leading with 20 was a great showing. Our setters did a great job and set us to 69 kills between the two of them. The team was gritty and made the tough play time after time."

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • UAlbany tallied the first point of the match and picked up an early 5-1 lead. Binghamton called the first timeout after a 3-0 scoring run and an 8-2 advantage from the Great Danes. 
  • Following the timeout, UAlbany maintained their lead, building an eight-point advantage at a score of 16-8.
  • The Bearcats rallied a late comeback closing the gap to 20-17 and forcing a Great Dane timeout.
  • Binghamton brought the match level in the closing stages of the first set, tying the score at 25. Junior Naliah Grannell notched the set-deciding block to give UAlbany a 29-27 advantage and a 1-0 lead in the match.
  • Trading points early, the Great Danes took the first multi-point lead of the second set, with a 4-2 advantage. 
  • Binghamton cut the early lead and tied the match at 10. Shortly after, the Bearcats took their first lead of the second set, forcing a UAlbany timeout at 14-11. 
  • The Great Danes pulled back late, cutting the lead to 19-17, but Binghamton held off the comeback to finish the set 25-21, tying the match 1-1. 
  • Binghamton got off to an early lead in the third set, having a 10-4 advantage as UAlbany called a timeout.
  • The Bearcats continued to build a lead following the timeout, pulling ahead eight points with the score at 18-10. 
  • The Great Danes began to chip away at Binghamton's lead, closing the gap to five points but the Bearcats triumphed and won the set, 25-17. 
  • The fourth set opened with six ties early on, but UAlbany took the 11-7 advantage. 
  • The Bearcats managed to close the lead to two, before tying the set at 20. 
  • The Great Danes shut down the comeback and closed out the set, 25-22, to tie the match and force a fifth set. 
  • The teams traded points early, until UAlbany took the first controlling lead of the set at 7-5, forcing a Binghamton timeout. 
  • UAlbany gained momentum as they built a four-point gap at 11-7.
  • Closing out the set 15-9, the Great Danes completed their comeback to win the match in five sets. 
 
NEXT: The Great Danes will continue at home with their Spread Respect match against Bryant on Sunday, October 23.
