BOSTON – University at Albany track & field student-athlete
Adrian Mitchell has been named one of three finalists for the 2020-21 America East Man of the Year Award.
Â
Mitchell, a javelin thrower from Kingston, Jamaica, has the opportunity to become UAlbany's second Man of the Year, following men's lacrosse's Kyle McClancey in 2018. Last season, softball's Kelly Barkevich was named UAlbany's second-straight, and fourth overall, Woman of the Year.
Â
This season, competing for the first time since 2018, Mitchell recorded a season-best mark in his signature event of 221-07.00. He recorded four first-place finishes in the javelin, including winning the event title at the 2021 America East Outdoor Championships. He placed 18th overall at the NCAA East Preliminary Championships in his final meet of the season.
Â
In his career, Mitchell has won two America East javelin titles and ranks second in UAlbany history with a career-best mark of 227-02.00. He earned All-America Second Team honors in 2017 by placing 14th at NCAA Outdoor Championships.
Â
Academically, Mitchell earned his undergraduate degree in Economics in May, 2020, and is currently pursuing his MBA.
Â
Softball's
Katie Falotico was a nominee for America East Woman of the Year, but was not selected as a finalist. Falotico, an infielder on the softball team, ranked tied for second in the America East with 31 runs scored in 2021, while batting .246 with two doubles, one triple, seven home runs, and 31 RBIs. She earned her undergraduate degree in Business Administration and is pursuing a graduate degree in Communications.
Â
The 2020-21 America East Man and Woman of the Year will be announced on Tuesday, June 22.
Â
The America East Man and Woman of the Year award is given to the top male and female senior student-athlete who have best distinguished themselves throughout their collegiate career in the areas of academic achievement, athletic excellence, service, and leadership, according the league's mission statement.
