UAlbany Leads Commissioner’s Cup Standings after Fall Season

BOSTON – The University at Albany accumulated 150 points in 2021-22 America East Commissioner's Cup standings in the fall 2021 season, leading its fellow member institutions entering the winter season, the conference office announced Wednesday.

The America East Stuart P. Haskell, Jr. Commissioner's Cup is awarded annually to the top-performance athletic department in the conference, and is determined by a scoring system under which each program earns points for its teams' performances during the regular season and conference tournament in each of the league's 17 sponsored sports.

UAlbany has won seven Commissioner's Cups in its history, including six-straight from 2013-18.

This fall, UAlbany's 150 points were anchored by championship-game appearances by field hockey and volleyball.  Field hockey's runner-up finish earned 40 points for the Great Danes, followed by 33 points in women's soccer, 31 points in men's soccer, and 30 points in volleyball.  Cross country earned a total of 16 points, 10 for the women and six for the men.

Indoor track & field and men's and women's basketball will bring in the next round of points for the Cup, and will be added in late February and early March, respectively.  The Great Danes have won eight-straight women's and two-straight men's indoor track & field conference titles.

Stony Brook has won each of the last two Commissioner's Cups, narrowly outperforming UAlbany in 2020-21, 296-294, with no points awarded for the indoor track & field season following its cancellation due to COVID-19.
