The University at Albany women's basketball team fell to Vermont by a score of 52-36 on Saturday, opening the second half of conference play.
Riding a two-game winning streak entering the matchup, Kantzy paced the UAlbany offense with 11 points and eight rebounds. Despite the double-digit performance by the redshirt senior, Vermont outscored UAlbany in the last three quarters (45-23) and surged to its fourth conference victory.
In the first, Schecter kicked off the scoring with a layup to give the Great Danes an early 2-0 lead. The Catamounts quickly responded back with three points to a 3-2 advantage at the 6:33 mark. Neither team was able to score again until three minutes remained when Frames notched a three-pointer to give the Great Danes the lead back. The Catamounts eventually knotted the contest up at five with a field goal in the paint with 2:51 left. From that point forward, the Great Danes went on an 8-2 run highlighted by two three-pointers from Kantzy holding onto a 13-7 lead into the second.
Frames continued the scoring for UAlbany, converting on a field goal in the paint and increased the UAlbany lead to 15-7. The Catamounts responded back with a 16-2 run starting at the eight-minute mark to take a 23-17 lead. The Vermont scoring went for over five minutes until Schecter converted on free throws with 58 seconds remaining, trimming the lead to 23-19 heading into halftime.
Vermont continued its scoring with a 7-0 run to start the third, taking a 30-19 lead at the 6:05 mark. A three-pointer by Conroy followed by free throws by Kantzy cut the deficit to 30-24, but the Catamounts continued to pull ahead. Another 7-0 run for Vermont increased its lead to 37-24, and eventually 37-27 heading into the fourth.
The Catamounts surged out to six straight points to begin the fourth, increasing their lead to 43-27. The Great Danes responded after each Vermont field goal from the 4:55 mark and on, but it wasn't enough to overcome the deficit.
