The University at Albany women's basketball team dropped its first conference game of the season to Maine by a score of 60-49 on Saturday.
The Black Bears have now won their last six meetings against the Great Danes, and have not lost at home in the Cross Insurance Center to an America East opponent since 2018.
Surging out to an early 11-1 lead in the first quarter, the Black Bears did not look back.
Lucia Decortes got the Great Danes on the board with a free throw with 4:05 remaining and field goals by Haegerstrand and
Khepera Stokes cut the lead to 11-5, but five straight points by Maine's guard Dor Saar eventually gave the Black Bears a 16-9 advantage heading into the second.
The Great Danes got off to a quick start in the second with a three-pointer by Frames to cut the deficit to 18-12, but the Black Bears continued to respond back with three-pointers of their own. Maine's Saar added three more three-pointers in the quarter to increase their lead to 31-18 with three minutes remaining. Decortes added a jumper with three seconds left, but the Great Danes were down 35-25 heading into halftime.
Kantzy paced the UAlbany offense to start the third. The redshirt senior tallied four quick points to cut the Black Bears' lead to six at the eight-minute mark. The Black Bears' responded back with a 10-0 run, highlighted by back-to-back three pointers to extend their lead to 43-29. Maine led by 17 at multiple points to end the quarter, and took a 50-33 advantage into the fourth.
Maine continued its scoring to start the fourth, and had its biggest lead of the night at 20 with a three-pointer at the 9:21 mark.
Patricia Conroy responded with a three-pointer of her own to trim the lead, but the Black Bears continued to pull ahead. Conroy added another three-pointer at the end of the quarter, but Maine held on for the win.
