ALBANY, N.Y. — The University at Albany football team is seeking its third straight victory over Colonial Athletic Association-rival New Hampshire when the teams meet at 1 Saturday afternoon in Durham.
Each of UAlbany's previous two victories over the Wildcats came against New Hampshire teams that were nationally ranked. Last year, UAlbany defeated No. 16 New Hampshire, 15-10, in the regular-season finale at Tom & Mary Casey Stadium. A year earlier, the Great Danes won, 36-25, at Wildcat Stadium when New Hampshire was ranked No. 21.
This year, the Wildcats are coming off a 35-24 win over No. 3 James Madison. New Hampshire came up with six turnovers in the game, including two interceptions returned for touchdowns.
The Great Danes narrowly missed upsetting No. 13 Delaware at home this past weekend, falling 21-16 on the Blue Hens' touchdown run with 18 seconds to play.
NEWS AND NOTES
Undercuffler debuts
Freshman quarterback Jeff Undercuffler made his first career start and second collegiate appearance against Delaware. Facing the No. 13 team in the country on a day with sustained winds of 25 miles per hour, he completed 15-of-28 passes for 171 yards with two interceptions.
Undercuffler had made his collegiate debut against Maine. After starter Vincent Testaverde and backup Will Brunson left the game with injuries, Undercuffler took over in the fourth quarter on a windy, snowy afternoon in Orono, Maine.
On his first official pass attempt, Undercuffler found Jerah Reeves over the middle in the end zone for a 14-yard touchdown pass. Undercuffler finished the game 2-for-6 for 18 yards.
Dynamic duo
Redshirt junior Elijah Ibitokun-Hanks and sophomore Karl Mofor each ran for a touchdown this past week against Delaware. They now have four each on the season.
Through the first nine games, both backs are averaging at least five yards per carry – Mofor at 5.8 and Ibitokun-Hanks at 5.1. Ibitokun-Hanks leads UAlbany with 692 yards, while Mofor has 444.
Stark on the mark
Senior placekicker Ethan Stark has made 11 of his 12 field-goal attempts. UAlbany's all-time record for most field goals made in a season is 15, set in 2007 by Jason Fralicker.
Stark's 51-yard field goal against Morgan State was the third longest in program history and just two yards shy of UAlbany's all-time record.
Stark also has made 18 of his 19 extra-point tries.
Looking ahead
The Great Danes close out the season at home against rival Stony Brook on Saturday, Nov. 17, at 3:30 p.m.
