This marks the sixth consecutive year the Great Danes are holding the Todd J. Clark Memorial Game. Clark, a Christian Brothers Academy graduate who was awarded a Purple Heart in 2010, was killed while serving in Afghanistan in 2013. His family will raise the flag before Saturday's game.
Other events include a halftime presentation by a representative from the Wounded Warriors and a pregame ride by the American Legion Riders.
Admission also is free for all active and retired service members who bring a valid military ID to the box office.
Throughout the game, the Great Danes will be wearing the names of active and retired military members on decals on the backs of their helmets. The names were submitted by fans, who will be able to keep the decals as a commemorative item.
NEWS AND NOTES
Frosh face at QB
True freshman quarterback Jeff Undercuffler may make his first career start Saturday if redshirt senior Vincent Testaverde is unable to play because of a lower-body injury.
Undercuffler made his collegiate debut this past Saturday at No. 24 Maine. On a blustery, snowy afternoon, Undercuffler entered the game with about 13 minutes to play after both Testaverde and backup Will Brunson left with injuries. Undercuffler connected with Jerah Reeves over the middle for a 14-yard touchdown on his first official pass attempt.
Remember when?
UAlbany had one of its biggest wins in program history against Delaware on Sept. 16, 2006. The Great Danes defeated the No. 11-ranked Blue Hens, 17-10, on the road thanks in large part to cornerback Rashad Barksdale, who intercepted Joe Flacco, now the quarterback for the Baltimore Ravens, twice in the game.
UAlbany also defeated Delaware, 17-6, in 2015.
Mofor earns tough yards
Sophomore running back Karl Mofor gained 68 yards on 12 carries — an average of 5.7 yards per carry — against Maine, which came into the game ranked No. 1 in the Colonial Athletic Association in rushing defense. Fifty-three of Mofor's yards came in the second half.
Mofor and redshirt junior Elijah Ibitokun-Hanks give the Great Danes a formidable one-two punch in the backfield. Through the first eight games, both backs are averaging at least five yards per carry – Mofor at 6.0 and Ibitokun-Hanks at 5.0. Ibitokun-Hanks leads UAlbany with 614 yards, while Mofor has 390. They have three touchdowns apiece.
Schedule strength
The Great Danes have one of the toughest schedules in the nation down the stretch. Four of their final regular-season games are against STATS Top 25 teams.
UAlbany already has faced No. 13 Towson and No. 24 Maine. After hosting No. 13 Delaware on Saturday, the Great Danes still have a game left with No. 16 Stony Brook in the regular-season finale.
