Women's Basketball Hosts Wagner

ALBANY, N.Y. - Fresh off a win in the 2017-18 home opener, the University at Albany women's basketball team (2-1) looks to make it three in a row Wednesday night when they host Wagner in a Thanksgiving Eve matchup.

The Great Danes opened the season with two games on the road before finally hosting Fordham nine days into the season on Sunday. UAlbany defeated the Rams 59-52 in overtime, avenging a double-overtime loss at Fordham from last season. Redshirt-senior Jessica Féquière and junior Chyanna Canada each set new career-highs in points, with 27 and 10, respectively.

UAlbany is over .500 after just three games this season. Last year, it took the Danes 10 games to hold a winning record with a home victory over Post to hit the 6-5 mark.

When they played last season, UAlbany earned its first road victory at Wagner, having previously fallen at Kentucky, Fordham, and St. John's, as well as vs. Miami in a neutral-site game played at Kentucky. The Great Danes already have their first road win this year, defeating Monmouth in the second game of the season, 68-44.

Wagner opened the season with four straight losses, but won their latest game against the College of Staten Island. The Seahawks have already played New Hampshire, one of three America East squads, including UAlbany, that feature on their schedule this year.

After Wednesday, the Great Danes will take a short break for the Thanksgiving holiday before returning to action on Monday, November 27 for a road matchup at Central Connecticut State. UAlbany will return to SEFCU Arena on Thursday, November 30 against St. John's.
