ALBANY, N.Y. – Matthew Bertrams, UAlbany Class of 2015, will return to the Chesapeake Bayhawks for the 2017 Major League Lacrosse (MLL) season after being selected 39th overall in the 2017 MLL Supplemental Draft.
Bertrams goes back to the Bayhawks, his team in 2016, with a fifth-round selection in the supplemental draft.
The MLL Supplemental Draft is held to allow teams to complete their 40-man rosters for the upcoming season. After each year, all teams protect 23 players from the previous season and fill out the rest of the team through players in the Supplemental Draft.
Last season, Bertrams played seven games for Chesapeake, finishing with two goals, 14 ground balls and nine caused turnovers from the midfield. He helped the team finish tied for first in the league last season.
He rejoins former UAlbany teammate John Maloney, who was a candidate for MLL Rookie of the Year in 2016, on the Bayhawks.
Other former UAlbany players currently on MLL teams include three on the Florida Launch, Lyle Thompson, Miles Thompson and Brett Queener, and two on the Rochester Rattlers, Blaze Riorden and Ty Thompson.
