UAlbany 2015 WILC Update: Great Danes Lead Iroquois Nationals, USA to Medal Finishes

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Four Great Danes made their mark on the 2015 World Indoor Lacrosse Championship (WILC) in the Carrier Dome, with the Iroquois Nationals, led by Lyle Thompson '15 and Miles Thompson '14, taking the silver medal and the United States, led by Joe Resetarits '12 and Blaze Riorden '16, earning the bronze medal.
The Iroquois Nationals fell to Canada 12-8 in the gold medal game in front of a WILC-record 10,421 in the Carrier Dome, getting the silver medal for the fourth-consecutive tournament.
For his efforts, Lyle Thompson was named to the All-World Team after being the top goal-scorer for the Iroquois Nationals in the tournament, finishing the WILC with 30 points off 16 goals and 14 assists. He served as the team's on-field leader most of the way, scoring a goal on a jump towards the circle in the third quarter and assisting Randy Staats on a power play in the fourth.
Miles Thompson was the team's primary player in the first half with a goal and two assists, including a perfect pass to a charging Jerome Thompson next to the goal circle and a power play conversion from outside the half circle. He finished with 13 goals and 16 assists in the tournament.
In the third place game earlier in the day, Resetarits and Riorden led the United States to a 15-4 victory over Israel for the bronze medal in the tournament.
Resetarits scored two goals and four assists, finishing with 20 points off nine goals and 11 assists in five games. His biggest moment on Sunday came in the second quarter when he got the second pass after a loose ball from Riorden's saved shot, scoring close range on a power play. That goal sparked a 5-0 USA run.
Riorden scored two goals and an assist in the win, ending his WILC with six goals and six assists. In the 4th quarter, he scored both of his goals, including cutting through the defense, catching the pass in the half-circle and scoring in the corner in the later minutes of the half.
Canada won its fourth-consecutive WILC with the victory on Sunday. Israel took fourth place.
