Vivian Vega, U20 Mexico Earns Spot in 2016 U20 World Cup with Third Place Finish in 2015 CONCACAF

SAN PEDRO SULA, HONDURAS – Vivian Vega and the women's U20 Mexican National Team are off to the 2016 U20 World Cup after earning third place in the U20 CONCACAF Tournament in Honduras.
Mexico tied for first place in Group A with Team USA with seven points, including victories over Haiti and Panama. It's 2-2 draw against the United States was the first time that the USA had not won a CONCACAF game in its last 15 contests.
Vega started Mexico's third group stage game against Panama, playing all 90 minutes. She helped the team notch a 2-0 victory to secure a share of first place in the group stage.
Mexico went undefeated in all five matches played in Honduras, drawing with Canada and falling in penalty kicks 5-4 in the semifinals.
The team rebounded with a 2-0 win over tournament host Honduras for third place, locking down the automatic berth into the U20 World Cup in 2016.
With the Great Danes this season, Vega picked up America East Second Team All-Conference honors at forward, helping the team to its first ever conference tournament title. She posted six goals, including three game-winners, and an assist for 13 points.
The 2016 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup with be held from November 13th-December 3rd in Papua New Guinea. 16 nations from across the world will compete in this biennial tournament.
