UAlbany Earns Third Shutout in Four Games in 0-0 Tie at Columbia

NEW YORK – The UAlbany defense fended off the Lions as the Great Danes women's soccer team tied Columbia 0-0 for its third shutout in their last four games on Friday night.
UAlbany (2-5-2) previously shut out Dartmouth and Saint Peter's, allowing a combined two goals in the last four games.
Alana Brennan picked up the shutout for UAlbany with five saves, with Grace Redmon getting one save for Columbia (2-1-3) on the other end. The Lions outshot UAlbany 14-4 in the game, but the Great Danes had two shots in overtime to Columbia's one.
Columbia was the early aggressor, getting the first three shots in the first 19:10, including two from Coleen Rizzo, with none being on goal.
UAlbany got its first good look in the 25th minute. Krista Fitzpatrick put a corner kick into the box for an Alexa Schneider header, which was blocked out of bounds. The following corner did not produce a shot.
The home team got off three shots from the 29th through the 31st minutes, with all going high. Neither side got off another shot the rest of the period as the two sides went into halftime tied at zero.
After Columbia had the first three shots of the second period, UAlbany earned a couple of corner kicks in the 61st and 62nd minutes, but did not get a shot off. Torie Goode countered with a shot the other way. Brennan made the save to hold the stalemate, stopping another shot two minutes later.
Following a pair of substitutions, Caitlyn Paltsios fired a shot in the 71st minute, putting the ball above the crossbar.
Later, Alexa Yow got off a shot in the 77th minute, with Brennan making another save. Columbia got a strong opportunity in the final minute of regulation, with Grace Taylor's shot hitting the crossbar. The two sides went into overtime tied at 0-0.
After some back-and-forth play to begin the first overtime, Columbia got the first chance from Kaylie Davidson on a shot, which went high.
UAlbany got its chance in minute 97, with Paltsios going for the golden goal on a free kick, but the Grace Redmon save ended the chance. Kiana Rugar got a shot off later, but the ball went wide as the first overtime period expired.
The second overtime did not see either side get off a shot as the clock expired with the 0-0 final score.
The Great Danes will head to Boston on Sunday, taking on Northeastern at 3 p.m.
