Outdoor Track Competes On Day Two At Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA – On Day One at the 2014 Penn Relays, the University at Albany outdoor track program saw four personal bests and one school record over the course of the competition. The Danes looked to continue that momentum as they progressed through the second of three days at Franklin Field.
Relay events dominated the proceedings on Day Two, whereas a higher amount of individual events were run on Day One. The men's 4x100m team of Robert Harris III, Jaymen Teemer, Winston McCormack Jr., and Jonathan Santana placed 23rd overall in the qualifying round in 41.23. The team qualified for the IC4A final round, which pits the top eight remaining IC4A teams not in the top eight overall. Similarly, the men's 4x200 team of Kareem Morris, McCormack Jr., Teemer, and Santana also qualified for the IC4A final, placing 18th overall in 1:26.23.
The men's 4x400 team of Taariq Jones, Santana, Larry Ramirez, and Jason Tomlinson finished 29th overall in the qualifying round with a time of 3:13.94. The men's distance medley relay team of John DeLallo, Jeremiah Obeng-Agyapong, Dylan Lowry, and Chris Buchanan placed eighth overall in the college section. DeLallo split 3:02.65 for 1,200m, Obeng-Agyapong split 49.18 for 400m, Lowry split 1:51.27 at 800m, and Buchanan split 4:14.72 for 1,600m.
The only women's relay of the day for the Danes was the Championship of America section of the shuttle hurdles relay. The team of Michelle Anthony, Tynelle Taylor-Chase, ToniAnn Werner, and Paige Vadnais placed eighth overall in 59.01.
Several individual events competed today as well. In the championship section of the men's 400 hurdles, Obeng-Agyapong placed 18th overall in 53.31. Ramirez followed in 38th with a time of 55.10. Kingsley Ogbonna tied for fourth in the eastern section of the men's high jump, clearing a height of 6'-6.75”. In the college section of the men's pole vault, Nathan Hiett led a contingent of three UAlbany athletes, placing sixth overall with a jump of 15'-7”. Matthew Catera placed ninth with a mark of 15'-1”. Nicholas Mattera also cleared 15'-1”, but tied for 10th on prior failed attempts.
Abel Gilet placed 22nd in the eastern section of the men's shot put, throwing 47'-2.5”. Gilet also placed 17th in the college section of the men's discus, with a mark of 153'-6”. In the women's throws, Veleisha Walker placed 14th in the college section of the javelin, with a mark of 135'-4”.
In addition to the IC4A finals in the men's 4x100 and 4x200, Day Three will see the running of the men's and women's 4x800 relays, as well as the championship sections of the men's high jump and pole vault.
