Women's Indoor Boasts Best ECAC Finish In Program History

BOSTON – The University at Albany women's indoor track and
field program placed fourth out of 53 competing teams at the ECAC Championships
this weekend in Boston, Mass. The Great Danes accumulated 35 points in the
program's best ever finish at the meet. A strong UConn squad took the title
with a total of 60.5 points.
Junior Kathryn Fanning shattered her already owned school
record in the mile, posting a title-winning time of 4:43.23. With little time
to recover, Fanning (2:11.4 ) also anchored a program record-breaking 4x800m
relay performance along with Jonelle White (2:14), Mackenzie Carter (2:16), and
Sherez Mohamed (2:12.3). The squad placed third with their time of 8:53.94.
Senior Pat McNish, a consistent high-scorer throughout
the season and possible qualifier for the NCAA Division I Championships,
captured the triple jump title with a leap of 41' 3.75” (12.59m). She also
placed second in the long jump with a 19' 6.75” (5.96m) mark, earning a total
of 18 points for the team.
Sprinter Jillian Haynes also put the Great Danes on the
board with her eighth-place finish in he 60m dash, crossing the finish line in
7.66 seconds.
For most of UAlbany's athletes, the ECAC Championships conclude
the indoor track and field season for 2012-13. Qualifying lists for the NCAA
Championships set to take place in Fayetteville, Arkansas, March 8-9, will be
announced Monday.
