UAlbany 's Road Woes Continue Falling To Rhode Island 3-1

KINGSTON, R.I. - Two early first-half goals by the Rams of Rhode Island down UAlbany, 3-1, on Friday, September 21. The Great Danes fall to 1-5-1 on the road and 3-5-1 overall while the Rams improve to 7-3-1.

It took just six minutes in the beginning of the match for Rhode Island to get on the scoreboard first. In the 6th minute, the Rams Jennifer Barrientos took the second corner kick of the game and volleyed it right into the back of the net. Then in the 35th minute, Rhode Island found success off the corner kick again for the second goal of the match. Barrientos crossed the corner kick to Alex Ruggieri, who redirected the cross for her first goal of the season.

Falling behind 2-0 in the first half, the Great Danes cut the deficit to one, 2-1, early in the second half. Midfielder Despina Psomopoulos, team leader in assists, set up UAlbany's goal with a pass from midfield to Allison Carhart who finished the play from the top of the goalie box.

Rhode Island came back with an insurance goal in the 74th minute to seal its seventh win of the season. Maggie McDonald sent a shot from 18 yards out for her first goal of the season.

The Rams would hold the advantage in shots, 12-3, and in corner kicks, 7-2.

UAlbany goalkeeper Alana Brennan tallied four saves on seven chances. Rhode Island goalkeeper Reilly Lindsey would not register a save with just one opportunity in 90 minutes.

The Great Danes open up conference play against Boston U. on Sunday, September 23.
