Women's Soccer Falls on the Road to Manhattan; Chelsea DeVerna Scores First-Half Goal

Riverdale, N.Y. - Keara Hunt recorded what would prove to be the gamewinner in the 55th minute to lead Manhattan to a 3-1 win over UAlbany in non-conference women's soccer action on Wednesday afternoon. Manhattan would score two goals in the second half to break a 1-1 tie and register the team's second win of the season.

The Jaspers posted the first goal of the game just 1:57 into the match as sophomore Marine Diamond headed a cross pass from Janie Schlauder to put the ball behind the Great Danes goalkeeper. UAlbany would tally the equalizer in the 19th minute when junior Chelsea DeVerna squeaked a shot inside the top right corner of the goal to end all scoring in the first half.

Manhattan (2-4-1) struck what would be the game winner in the 55th minute as Devon Lutz moved through defensemen and sent a pass to Hunt who then finished one off the crossbar. The Jaspers tallied an insurance goal to make it 3-1 in the 67th minute. Lutz received a pass up the middle from Claire Reinhard and lofted a shot over UAlbany's goalkeeper Dani Britt to secure the win.

The Great Danes outshot the Jaspers 26-11, but could not find the target. Manhattan had a slight edge on corner kicks, with a 5-4 advantage. Britt made five saves for the Great Danes in the loss. For Manhattan, Kara Davis made 14 saves in a complete game effort.

UAlbany (2-4-0) is set to open America East Conference play on Sunday, hosting Boston U. at 2:00 p.m.
