UAlbany Drops 3-0 Decision to La Salle in Non-Conference Women's Soccer Action

Albany, N.Y. - Three different players scored for La Salle to lead the Explorers to a 3-0 win over UAlbany in non-conference women's soccer action on Sunday afternoon at Plumeri Sports Complex. It was the fifth straight shutout win for La Salle.

            Renee Washington started off the scoring for La Salle, taking an assist from Jess Hopton at 22:08 of the first half. Hopton carried the ball into the box before passing off to Washington, who shot the ball over UAlbany goalkeeper Jacky Ubert's head in the center of the net.

            The Explorers carried the 1-0 lead into the second half before scoring two quick goals. Kelsey Haycook took an assist from Ashley Chilcoat on a corner kick, heading the ball into the lower left corner in the 55th minute. Hopton added La Salle's final goal in the 56th minute, taking an assist from Gabriella Carbone on a corner kick attempt, setting the final score.

            La Salle (4-0-1) outshot the Great Danes, 14-7, including a 10-2 advantage in the second half. UAlbany held a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks in the game. Ubert played all 90 minutes in the net for UAlbany, making 6 saves. Melissa Sanger also recorded a complete game between the pipes for the Explorers, making one save.

            UAlbany (2-4-0) will return to action on Friday, Sept. 16 on the road at Central Connecticut State.
