Albany, N.Y. - Casey Marks scored the only goal needed to lead UAlbany to a 1-0 defeat of Binghamton in America East Conference women's soccer action on Thursday afternoon at Varsity Field. The victory ended the Great Danes' seven-game losing skid and bumped the team up in the conference standings.

            Marks tallied the game winner in the 15th minute, taking an assist from Rebecca Lee. On a corner kick, Lee crossed the ball from the left corner of the field to the right side of the net, where Marks tipped the ball past Binghamton goalkeeper Carrie Martin.

            The teams played a defensive battle in the second half, as neither team could score on 15 combined chances. Binghamton outshot the Great Danes, 17-7, but UAlbany's defense played an impeccable game, led by goalkeeper Jackie Ubert, who made nine saves between the pipes. UAlbany held a 3-1 advantage in corner kicks, making the most of the opportunities with the lone goal. Martin stopped one shot in the goal in a complete-game effort for Binghamton (4-7-1, AE 1-2-1)

            UAlbany (3-9-0, AE 1-2-0) will return to action on Sunday, continuing conference play on the road at Vermont at 2 p.m.
