UAlbany Sports Nutrition Program

The mission of the UAlbany Sports Nutrition Program is to enhance student-athlete performance and life-long wellness through individual guidance and team education.

• Individual nutrition guidance is available to all student-athletes.

• The goal is to develop a personalized food plan taking into account the student-athlete's nutritional needs, physical demands and academic schedule.

• Athletes receive advice on choosing the best foods on campus.  For those who live off-campus, there is help with shopping and cooking tips.

• Athletes are encouraged to visit the nutritionist throughout the year to keep track of their progress. All meetings are conducted in a private setting to protect the student-athlete's privacy and foster a trusting relationship.

• The sports nutritionist is available for team presentations on topics such as current trends in sports nutrition, eating for top performance, supplements and hydration. Coaches and athletes may request specific topics that are of special interest to them.

• The sports nutritionist is also available to athletic staff members who seek nutritional support.

About Dr. Marinello:

Dr. Marinello has earned degrees in Biology and Nutrition Science and a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology. She is an experienced research scientist and nutrition educator. Her interests include the role of nutrition and genetics on health, athletic performance and weight management. Dr. Marinello is a member of The American Dietetic Association and has received the ADA Certificate of Training in Adult Weight Management. Dr. Marinello is a columnist for the Albany Times Union answering nutrition and wellness questions in a bi-weekly column, The Healthy Professor.
