Women's Field Hockey Falls to 12th-Ranked James Madison, 2-1, at Alumi Turf Field

Albany, N.Y. - Freshman midfielder Auburn Weisensale scored the game-winning goal to lead No. 12 James Madison to a 2-1 victory over UAlbany in non-conference field hockey action on Sunday, Sept. 13 at Alumni Turf Field.

UAlbany struck first in the contest, as Inge Baijens tallied an unassisted goal in the 11th minute of play. After the initial corner shot by Tegan Brown, Baijens collected the rebound and shot the ball over James Madison goalkeeper Kelsey Cutchins to give the Great Danes the early lead. The Dukes tied the score two minutes later, as Meghan Bain took an assist from Vivien Konijnendijk and went around UAlbany goalkeeper Christine Hoffman for the goal.

Weisensale gave James Madison the winning goal with less than 10 minutes left to play, as she gathered the ball in a scramble in front of the cage and put it past goaltender Kristi Troch in the 62nd minute. The Great Danes had several more opportunities to score, but were unable to capitalize.

UAlbany outshot James Madison, 13-12, while the Dukes held an 11-10 advantage in penalty corners. Cutchins finished with four saves for James Madison in a complete-game performance. Hoffman and Troch split time in the cage, with Hoffman making three saves in the first half of play.

UAlbany (3-2) will return to action on Friday, hosting St. Francis (Pa.) at 6 p.m.
