Simsbury, Conn. ? Maggie Taylert and Corrin Conroy
each fired an opening-round 80 to lead UAlbany to a first round lead at the
America East Conference Women's Golf championship at the par-72, 5,826-yard
Simsbury Farms Golf Course. The Great Danes shot a program-record round of 324,
for a three-stroke lead over Hartford.
Taylert and Conroy finished the
first round tied for first place with Hartford's
Sadie Heald after carding eight-over par 80s. Taylert shot a round-best 39 on
the front nine, before closing out her round with a 41. Conroy recorded a 42 in
the opening nine holes and finished out her day with a 38 on the back nine.
Sophomore Amanda McPhee tied Taylert
for the best front nine score with a 39 and totaled an 81 to place fourth after
the first round. Sophomore Jessica Signorelli rounded out the Great Danes' top
four competitors with an 83, to finish tied for eighth. Junior Sun Hwa Kim
carded a 91 for the Great Danes.
The final round of the championship
will begin at 8 a.m. on Sunday, May 3.
