Cleveland, Ohio ? Former University at Albany Director of Athletics William Moore has been selected for induction into the NACDA (National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics) Hall of Fame, as announced on Tuesday, May 13 by NACDA President Kevin White, director of athletics at the University of Notre Dame.
The 2008 Hall of Fame class will receive their awards at NACDA's 43rd Annual Convention in Dallas, Texas on Tuesday, June 10. Syracuse's Jake Crouthamel and Arkansas' Frank Broyles are among the eight administrators to be enshrined.
Moore, who has been involved in athletics administration for more than 57 years, served UAlbany as its director of athletics from 1983 to 1993. During his tenure, he consolidated athletics, physical education and recreation into one department, oversaw the construction of both SEFCU Arena and The Bubble, created the Athletic Hall of Fame, and moved athletics funding under State of New York governance.
Moore, who was inducted into UAlbany's Athletic Hall of Fame in 1996, was also commissioner of the New England Collegiate Conference. The Great Danes competed in that league as a Division II program prior to upgrading to Division I. Moore, who received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the All-American Football Foundation in 1997, has also been the director of athletics at Central Connecticut State University and Shepherd State College in West Virginia.
During his stay in the Capital Region, Moore was chair of the National Football Foundation and Hall of Fame Capital District Chapter and a member of the Albany Police Athletic League's Board of Directors.
