UAlbany's Chris Simpson Named to FCS Athletic Directors Academic All-Star Football Team

Cleveland, Ohio -- University at Albany's Chris Simpson has been chosen to the 11th annual Football Championship Subdivision Athletic Directors Association Academic All-Star Team, as announced by the FCS ADA Selection Committee.  Simpson was one of 43 student-athletes selected.

            Simpson, a junior outside linebacker from Victor, N.Y., has a 3.96 cumulative grade point average in physics.  He is a member of the school's 3+2 engineering program and has served as a research intern for Nanoscale Science and Engineering.

            Simpson totaled 38 tackles, including 16 unassisted, in 12 appearances this season.  He also played special teams on the kickoff cover, kickoff return and punt return units.  He had a career-high nine tackles against Robert Morris in November.  Simpson performed on a defense that ranked 13th among the NCAA Division I FCS leaders in points allowed (18.2 ppg) and 18th in total yards (300.8 ypg).  UAlbany (9-3) won its second consecutive Northeast Conference championship and defeated Pioneer Football League winner Jacksonville in the Gridiron Classic.

            A NEC Academic Honor Roll recipient, Simpson is a Presidential Scholar and a member of UAlbany's Honors College.  He serves on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee's Executive Committee and has been active in community service with Adopt-A-Family and Habitat for Humanity.
