Fung and Panos Compete at NCAA Regional Championship

Bronx, N.Y. ? Freshman Emily Fung (Greenwich Central) and sophomore Ally Panos of the University at Albany women's cross country team competed at the NCAA Northeast Regional Championship held at Van Cortlandt Park on Saturday morning. Both runners were running in this prestigious event for the first time.

Fung navigated the 6,000-meter course in 23:49.5, which placed her 112th among 247 runners. Panos finished 176th overall in 24:46.

“Emily made a nice effort out there today,” said head coach Craig McVey. “Ally, who was not feeling 100 percent, also ran well. There was a 25 mile per hour wind in their face, so the weather conditions were not very good. Times were affected by a good minute for everybody in the race. It was a pretty tough day.”

UAlbany plans to run a full men's squad at the IC4A Championship on Saturday, Nov. 22, while the women are also expected to compete as a team at the ECAC Championship the same morning. Both races will be held at Van Cortlandt Park.
