UALBANY'S 6-0 VICTORY OVER HOWARD IS LARGEST MARGIN OF VICTORY IN D-I ERA
Washington, D.C. - Senior midfielder Jamie Dougherty and freshman midfielder Jaclyn Rosada scored two goals apiece as the UAlbany women's soccer team defeated non-conference opponent Howard, 6-0, on Sunday, Sept. 24.
It was the Great Danes' largest margin of victory in a game since the soccer program moved to Division I in 1999. The previous record had been set one week ago, with a 6-1 win over NJIT.
Junior midfielder Scovia Oraro scored the game's first goal with one second remaining in the first half. The unassisted goal was Oraro's first of the season. Dougherty then made it a 2-0 game with a score at 66:25, assisted by Rosada and junior midfielder Alicia Gibson. It was the first of four Great Danes goals tallied in a span of eight minutes and 20 seconds, with the other three scored by Rosada, Dougherty and sophomore forward Diana Barrera. Rosada finished the scoring with her second of the afternoon at 85:55.
With the win, UAlbany's record improves to 3-7-1. UAlbany freshman goaltender Maria Liguori earned her second shutout of the season, making five saves. Sophomore forward Nathalie Williston had three of Howard's seven shots, while sophomore Jessamyn Perkins and senior Dolly Akingbohungbe split time in net for the Bison (0-8-0).
The Great Danes resume their conference schedule with a match against Vermont on Thursday, Sept. 28 at 4 p.m. before traveling to Binghamton on Sunday, Oct. 1 for a 1 p.m. contest.
