Jay Geiger was named head athletic trainer in October 2006. He is responsible for all aspects of the sports medicine program, including preventive training, injury rehabilitation and nutrition counseling. Geiger supervises a staff of nine full-time assistants and a group of volunteer and student trainers.

Previous to his present appointment, Geiger served as assistant athletics director and head trainer at the College of Saint Rose since 1996. He supervised an assistant, three graduate assistants and 20 student interns who provided a sports medicine service for the school's 220 student-athletes. Geiger began his career as an intern on the athletics training staff at Siena College. He later went to Saint Rose as a graduate assistant in the fall of 1994.

A certified athletics trainer according to the NATABOC requirements, Geiger is a member of the National Athletics Trainers Association (NATA) and is a certified sports psychologist in accordance with the American Coaches Effectiveness Program. He has also worked as the head trainer for the arena football2's Albany Conquest since 2002. In addition, Geiger was the assistant trainer and equipment manager for the Albany Firebirds of the Arena Football League from 1992-2000.

Geiger earned his bachelor's degree in sports medicine from Colby-Sawyer College in the spring of 1994 before completing his master's in educational psychology at Saint Rose. He earned four varsity letters as a member of the Colby-Sawyer soccer team, plus was named to the All-New England squad. His wife, Lisa, also works as an athletic trainer in the Albany area. Jay, Lisa and their daughter Averi live in the Capital Region.
