Mary Grimes

Mary Grimes enters her seventh season as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at the University at Albany. Grimes also serves the team as the compliance liaison and works directly with the development of guards.  She also makes opponent scouting reports and assists with game preparation.

Grimes worked directly with Ebone Henry, the 2013 America East Co-Player of the Year and a three-time all-conference guard.  Henry finished her career as the all-time leading scorer in UAlbany history, earning 1,634 points and 759 rebounds.  She also worked with the program's all-time leading rebounder Julie Forster, who got 1,109 points and 1,149 boards in her career.

Grimes came to UAlbany after a five-year stint at Syracuse University, where she was an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator. She was responsible for all recruiting efforts for the Orange, including developing and maintaining the recruit database, serving as the compliance liaison and coordinating all visits and transcripts. Grimes was responsible for recruiting the Collegiate Girls Basketball Report's eighth-ranked class in 2009, and coached numerous All-Big East Conference honorees, including Nicole Michael, an Associated Press honorable mention All-American last season. Syracuse made one NCAA and two WNIT appearances during her tenure and recorded back-to-back winning campaigns for the first time in nine years.

Prior to Syracuse, Grimes was an assistant coach at Le Moyne College from 2003-05, where she handled coaching aspects of the program as well as team travel and student-athlete academic progress. A 2003 graduate of Siena College with a B.S. in marketing and management, Grimes helped lead the Saints to three consecutive Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference regular-season titles, as well as the first tournament championship and NCAA appearance in school history in 2001. A native of Detroit, Mich., she was named Siena's defensive player of the year as a junior when the Saints made the first of two WNIT appearances.

Grimes lives in Colonie, New York with her husband, Sakima, her son, Braylen, and her daughter, Mia Ann.
