Christie Novatin

Christie Novatin enters her second season as UAlbany’s assistant softball coach in 2015.

In 2014, Novatin helped the Great Danes to a historic run to the NCAA Regional in Eugene, Ore., as the Great Danes boasted a 34-13 overall record and 14-3 conference mark. UAlbany captured its fifth conference tournament title and advanced to its fifth NCAA tournament. In Eugene, UAlbany overcame Utah Valley, 4-3, for the program’s third NCAA win in history.

Under Novatin’s surveillance, Charlise Castro was named to the all-region team, Liz Snow was named the America East Rookie of the Year, and Brittany MacFawn, Maggie Cocks, and Vicky McFarland picked up first-team honors, highlighting a cast of eight on the first and second squads.

Novatin came to UAlbany after spending the 2013 season on Rider University’s staff. She also spent two years at Georgian Court University in Lakewood, N.J. and helped the Lions compile 70 wins and an appearance in the 2011 conference playoff finals.

A four-year letterwinner for Hofstra University, Novatin graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Science and a Physical Education minor in 2010, earning Dean's List honors.

Novatin was a 119-game veteran for the Pride who advanced to three NCAA Regionals during her career (2007, 2008, 2010) after winning three Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) championships while winning 157 of 218 games (.720 winning percentage).

Prior to Hofstra, Novatin played four years of softball at Howell High School in Farmingdale, N.J. and also played four years of soccer and three years of basketball for the Rebels. Novatin won the Distinguished Athlete Award and the Scholar-Athlete Award in 2006, as well as the Sportsmanship Award in 2005 and 2006.
