John Saviano

John Saviano

Saviano joins UAlbany as an Assistant/Pitching Coach for the 2022 season after most recently serving at St. Thomas Aquinas as the team's Head Pitching Coach.

"We are excited to add John to the baseball staff," said Head Coach Jon Mueller. "He will serve as our pitching coach and also be responsible for assisting in day to day operations. We're glad to have him as part of our program moving forward as we look ahead to 2022."

Saviano served as the Head Pitching Coach at St. Thomas Aquinas from 2019 through the 2021 season. He was charged with all duties relating to the team's pitching staff. While at St. Thomas Aquinas, he became familiar with Rapsodo, Pitch Logic, and other technologically advanced tools used to improve pitching performance in student-athletes. His 2021 pitching staff posted a top-10 ERA in the NCAA (3.77) as a result, while also placing in the top-10 in win/loss percentage (78.8), and top-20 in WHIP (1.31) and strikeout to walk ratio (2.81).

"We are excited to welcome John to UAlbany," added Associate Head Coach Jeff Kaier. "John has a proven track record of success, both as a player and a coach. His knowledge, energy and work ethic will be a valuable addition to our program."

Notably in 2021, Saviano coached student-athlete Alex Mack to ECC Pitcher of the Year honors after finishing sixth in the NCAA in ERA (1.61), seventh in strikeout to walk ratio (10.12) and seventh in WHIP (0.84).

"I am excited to start up here at UAlbany and show what I have to give to this great program," said Saviano. "I would like to thank my friends and family for being so supportive in my coaching endeavors, my girlfriend, Taylor, for following me around the country in my baseball career and continuously being there for me when I need her, and all of the past coaches that I have learned from and that have helped me get to where I am today. Without all of these people I would not be accomplishing my goals and doing what I love every day.

Saviano has also spent time as an instructor with Power Arm Baseball, as a travel team coach in both New York and New Jersey, and as a baseball camp supervisor and instructor with various collegiate and professional teams. He graduated from the New Jersey Institute of Technology with a B.S. in Business Management. He was a student-athlete all four years at NJIT, serving as a voice on the athletic department's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). He played professional baseball for three years, two in the Pecos League and one in the Frontier League.
