ALBANY, N.Y. – Ivy Santana, who will be a freshman with the University at Albany women’s lacrosse team this coming fall, is a recipient of the 2018 Tewaaraton Native American Scholarship, presented by US Lacrosse.
Santana, a citizen of the Seneca Nation and resident of Bucktown, N.Y., was honored during the Tewaaraton Awards ceremony earlier this month in Washington, D.C.
Each year the scholarship honors one male and one female high school student of Haudenosaunee/Iroquois heritage who “exemplify high character, leadership and academics, both on and off the lacrosse field,” according to US Lacrosse, which in 2011 made a 10-year commitment to support the scholarships.
A three-year captain of the lacrosse team at Lake Shore High School, Santana finished her high school career with 176 goals, 134 assists and 114 ground balls. She is a two-time All-American and three-time All-Western New York First-Team member who also received a Role Model Scholarship from the Seneca Nation in 2017.
