Women’s Lacrosse Hosts Villanova in Sunday Matinee

ALBANY, N.Y. – Returning home after a two-game road swing last weekend, University at Albany women’s lacrosse (1-2) faces Villanova (1-6) at John Fallon Field on Sunday, March 13 at noon. The Great Danes meet the Wildcats this weekend for the first all-time meeting.

SAVITCHEFF NAMED AE OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
In a 1-1 week, attack Dakotah Savitcheff garnered America East Women’s Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week honors, the conference announced Monday morning. The junior tallied eight points, including seven goals to join the 100-goal club for her career.
In a 12-4 win at Elon, Savitcheff went for four points on three scores and one assist. She went 1-for-2 on free position shots against the Phoenix, and fired all six of her shots on goal. The junior recorded four goals in Chapel Hill on Sunday against the fourth-ranked Tar Heels. Savitcheff added four ground balls and two caused turnovers at UNC.
With 103 career goals, the junior attack is two shy of cracking the UAlbany all-time top-10 in the category. Monday’s weekly award marks the fifth such honor for Savitcheff in her career.
SYRACUSE ON TIME WARNER CABLE SPORTSCHANNEL
In the first meeting at John Fallon Field since 2008, UAlbany women’s lacrosse will host nationally-ranked New York powerhouse Syracuse on Time Warner Cable SportsChannel on Wednesday, April 12 at 3:00 p.m. The Great Danes have lost by just two goals in each of the last two meetings at the Carrier Dome.
SCOUTING VILLANOVA
UAlbany and Villanova meet for the first time all-time at John Fallon Field on Sunday afternoon. The Wildcats post a record of 1-6, including three one-goal losses at Cornell, at High Point and most recently at home against Drexel. Julie Young’s squad is 0-3 on the road in 2016.
Young took the helm in 2012, and posted nine wins in 2015 for the most program victories since 2002. Villanova returns 11 of 12 starters from last season, a team that posted the first win over a nationally ranked opponent in 2015 against No. 19 Delaware.
Senior Jackie Froccaro tops the Wildcat offense with 15 goals and six assists for 21 points. The reigning BIG EAST Attacker of the Year, Froccaro also has 18 draws to her credit to lead the team.
