Albany, N.Y. - Aubrey Brooks
recorded a 6-4, 6-1 win over Christina Ton, and teamed up with Susan Ma for a
win at No. 1 doubles as the Great Danes posted a 5-2 win over Manhattan in
non-conference tennis action on Saturday at the UAlbany Tennis Courts.
In
doubles action, Ma and Brooks recorded UAlbany's only win, defeating Hilary
Valenzuela and Christina Puleo, 8-1. Manhattan earned the doubles point with
wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. Lili Johnson and Brianna Turano defeated Laine
Mackey and Melissa Coughlin, 8-3, at second doubles, while Ton and Stephanie
Tsao recorded an 8-6 win over Sarah Iannone and Rachel Drake in the third
position.
The
Great Danes won five of six singles matches to seal the team victory. Mackey
defeated Valenzuela, 6-4, 6-1 at No. 2 singles, while Iannone posted a 6-2, 6-5
win over Turano at No. 4 singles. Coughlin and Drake finished off the victories
for UAlbany in the fifth and sixth positions, respectively. Coughlin won over
Megan Maffei, 6-0, 6-1, while Drake defeated Kaitlynn Zaffuto, 6-5, 6-1. Manhattan's
lone singles win came at the top spot, as Johnson recorded a 6-1, 6-3 win over
Ma.
UAlbany
will return to action on April 19 at Hawaii.
