New Haven, Conn. - Susan Ma defeated Margaret Sabatino at No. 2 singles and also teamed up with Caitlin Crowley to post a win at No. 2 doubles to lead fifth-seeded UAlbany to a 4-0 victory over No. 6 Hartford in the consolation round of the 2010 America East Conference Women's Tennis Championship on Saturday, May 1 at the Yale Tennis Center.
UAlbany earned the doubles point by winning all three matches. Livia Gherman and Laine Mackey combined for an 8-6 victory over Sabatino and Livia Blasque at the No. 1 spot. Ma and Crowley took second doubles over Nicole Haynal and Kaitlin Lennon, while Sarah Iannone and Melissa Coughlin registered an 8-2 win against Margaret Potkay and Gulay Ozdemir at No. 3 doubles.
Ma, Crowley and Iannone all recorded singles victories in straight sets. At No. 2 singles, Ma posted a 6-0, 6-4 win over Sabatino. Crowley defeated Amanda Epstein at No. 4 singles by set scores of 6-0 and 6-2, while Iannone took fifth singles, 6-0, 6-2, against Lennon. The match ended after the Great Danes accumulated the four points needed to determine the winner.
UAlbany finished its season with an 11-8 record in match play.
